Back to Full Blog

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie have no clue what to do
but I'll just go with the flow.

I am in New York city, at my office, killing time before
I meet my girlfriend for lunch, going to "El Cantinero"
a mexican restaurant (think I'll go for a margarita)
yummy!

Be back soon!

Thanks for your message, jackie. I'm glad you like my writing, and liked that post--that it struck a chord. The restaurant was Rosa's Mexicano.--Sir Cranky

Hi Jackie--I wanted to think about your question before writing you back. I guess my best suggestion is the old journalist's roster of questions: Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?

If you really want to blog--you can simply start typing right off the top of your head. For example, you might tell the readers what the name of your blog means. That is "what." You might tell the readers a little about yourself, whatever you feel comfortable sharing--that is "who." (I know this is obvious but I am just being thorough.) You might discuss your enjoyment of margaritas, which you mentioned in your first post--it could be "why" you drink them, "where" you've drunk them (like El Cantinero), "when" you most like to drink them, and "who" you like to drink them with (you could change their names too if you wish). Finally, you could write "how" you got started writing your blog, what motivated you, even where you write it. You could write on all those angles on any other topic that captures your fancy...what it's like being around Union Square, for example.

When I first start writing my blog, I almost quit. I felt vulnerable writing about myself, even anonymously. But a friend encouraged me to keep going, and I'm glad I did. It's been fun for me.

Just out of curiosity, let me ask you: what is it about my writing that you like?

Best,
Sir Cranky

Thanks, jackie, for your good thoughts about my sister, and thanks also for your kind words about my writing. If I can make you feel the experience of what I'm writing about, I'm doing okay. That's precisely what Ernest Hemingway defined as a writer's job well-done. Good luck with your own writing!--Sir Cranky
